Synopsis

Two great locations and lots of prep allowed us to bang this out in 1.5 days. Michael and I scouted both locations a few times each and dialed in our shot list. This was extremely helpful as there was no time to spare during the shoot. We pre-lit the barn interior for both our day and night looks. The barn had massive windows on the front side that required plenty of black solids to eliminate all the exterior light. For the daytime look, the Key light was a 400Watt JoLeko, book light that we bounced into a 4x4 silver and back through a 6x6 rag of 1/4 grid cloth. Kenny’s backlight was an 800Watt Joker-Bug HMI that we rigged just above the windows that are in frame. For the night look, Kenny’s Key light was two units - one Aputure 600X in a OctaDome 120 that was 90° off camera left and another Aputure 300X book light that was 45° off camera left. Kenny was backlit with a 750Watt Leko with 1/4 CTO & Bastard Amber on it. For the close ups, we snuck in a Dracast Silkray 400 Bi-Color LED Round Light for eye light. For the exterior daytime shots we had a battery powered Aputure 60X that I used to flare the lens with. The combination of these warm flares and different prisms from Glaas that I was holding in front of the lens allowed for some beautiful effects. Most every shot was done on the Dana Dolly.
